MFA of Ukraine, Ukrainian Institute and Wikimedia Ukraine Launch Information Campaign “Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month” for the Second Time

“Ukraine Everywhere” is the motto of the international information campaign entitled “Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month” that will last from 17 February to 17 March 2022. The campaign is designed to create more articles about Ukraine and its culture in other languages on Wikipedia. “Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month” will be held for the second time; the first campaign took place in 2021. During that campaign, 172 users created and improved articles more than 1,200 times and created more than 817 new articles in Ukrainian and foreign languages. “For two years in a row, we are launching “Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month” on Wikipedia. This is a great opportunity to tell the world more about creative, dynamic, innovative Ukraine. Promoting Ukraine’s positive image abroad is one of the key priorities of our Foreign Policy Strategy. I encourage everyone to join this initiative and create hundreds of new articles about Ukrainian cinema, music, theater and literature on Wikipedia,” said Dmytro Kuleba, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month will be dedicated to famous Ukrainian artists of cinema, music, literature, architecture and design who have made a significant contribution to world culture and about whom there are no articles on Wikipedia. “Usually, we turn to Wikipedia to get the necessary information. Therefore, it is crucial to write new articles and improve existing ones so that more people from all over the world learn about Ukraine, its culture, phenomena, and personalities. The information must be clear, truthful, objective, and available in as many languages as possible. This project will help participants to talk more loudly about Ukraine and its heritage,” commented Volodymyr Sheiko, Director General of the Ukrainian Institute. We invite everyone to join “Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month”. All information about the project, the list of proposed articles, and terms of participation are available at ucdm.wikimedia.org.ua. #UCDMonth #UEWikipedia For general matters, please contact: [email protected]
