Information Warfare: russian fakes for April 7th 2022 (at 18:00)

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, mass media, soіcial networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

Today the russian information space is still focused on denying russian atrocities and shifting the blame for them onto Ukraine. Russia continues to play victim on the international stage. After the last round of international sanctions a lot of attention is focused on the economy, the government is trying to assure the populace that everything is fine. Judging by their rhetoric, the banks will be forbidden to pay dividends to their clients in 2021.

FAKE: Scott Ritter claims that AFU had killed civilians in Bucha

Scott Ritter is one of the Kremlin-bought “western experts” that frequently appears on the air and in the interviews of russian media to authoritatively recite all the narratives of russian propaganda. He also writes opinion pieces for Kremlin media concern Russia Today. Russian propaganda uses Ritter as a useful fool, whose western origin and former ties to the US military should convince russians that all he says is true.

The problem is that the western press outlets had already disproved the fakes of russian propaganda concerning the Bucha Massacre. So the “western expert” Scott Ritter is a bit late repeating the already disproven russian fakes.

FAKE: US will use lend-lease to make more money

It is not surprising that russians don’t remember much about lend-lease, considering how much they have warped the history of World War 2. Most of the weapons and materiel were given for free, to use until destroyed or returned to the US. The materiel that got delivered after the war ended was sold at a 90% discount. Out of 11 billion dollars (equivalent of 145 billion in 2020) worth of supplies USSR repaid only around 700 million.

The main idea behind lend-lease was that it provided repayment not in terms of money or returned goods, but in “joint action directed towards the creation of a liberalized international economic order in the postwar world.” That is, the U.S. would be “repaid” when the recipient fought the common enemy and joined the world trade and diplomatic agencies, such as the United Nations.

During two years of covid pandemic russian economy barely managed to recover to the levels of 2019. Also, the fact that even the russians do not consider their country as a developed one is pretty funny.

FAKE: US sanctions hit the ordinary russian citizens

This fake is designed to create an illusion of separation between russian people and russian government. According to this illusion, the government makes all the decisions, and the innocent people who didn’t do anything wrong are getting hit by sanctions, so the sanctions should be lifted. But the criminal russian government is a product of russian people. It is the ordinary, “innocent” russians who have created Putin’s regime by ignoring the corruption, erosion of freedom and usurpation of power for decades. It is the “innocent” russians who gave Putin a green light to turn their country into a fascist dictatorship. It is the “innocent” russians who are supporting the war in Ukraine. It is the “innocent” russians who are destroying Ukrainian cities and villages. It is the “innocent” russians who are pillaging, killing and raping.

FAKE: The Ukrainian schoolbooks are teaching about “ancient Ukrs” that had dug out the Black Sea

As a proof, russians demonstrate a “Defiance” comic book, a historical fantasy about the Red Terror of 1919, and the book “The history of civilization. Ukraine”. Both are not schoolbooks. “The History of civilization” is written by 14 lead Ukrainian archaeologists, and the book itself tells about the history of the peoples of Cimmeria and Scythia, Taurus, Celts, Hellenes, Romans, Sarmatians, Bulgarians, Goths and Slavs, who lived on the lands of modern Ukraine, their culture, mythology and everyday life, their place in the world and their impact on the formation of modern Ukrainian nation. The “Ukrs”, which were invented by russians to ridicule Ukrainian history, are not in the book.

Despite all the russian attempts to ridicule Ukrainian culture and history, all they managed to do is to demonstrate their own infirmity and humiliate themselves.

This fake is a continuation of the narrative that justifies the invasion into Ukraine. After weeks of fighting, destruction, looting, murder and rape, russians had turned their fantasies about russophobic Ukraine into reality. Once a friendly neighbor, Ukraine is now a country hostile to russia, with a society dominated by hatred towards russians.
