Millions of Ukrainians are encountering russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of russian fakes.
Today, the russian information space is focused on the new offensive in Donbas. There are few actual news from the front lines, due to lack of russian military successes, so the media is filled with meaningless stories about russian heroism and Ukrainian cowardice. Propagandists claim that thousands of Ukrainians are surrendering, but show the same videos with about 50 supposedly captured soldiers. Numerous stories are about besieged Mariupol, where russian propagandist can show some actual russian progress as Azovstal is getting obliterated by aerial bombardment live on air. Another russian oligarch had voiced his displeasure with the war – this time it is Oleg Tinkov, who, in the past, was demanding that putin to be crowned as an Emperor. The hunt for the rebel oligarch started immediately, as the whole of russian media space turned against the former kremlin ally. Tinkov was labeled a traitor, an enemy of the people and many other, unpleasant things.
Main fake narratives:
- Ukrainian soldiers are surrendering en masse
- Ukraine is being controlled by the west
- russians don’t commit war crimes, Ukrainians do
- Ukrainian refugees are causing crime and spreading disease
- Sanctions against russia are destroying Europe
- The world is dominated by russophobia
FAKE: Ukrainians execute their own soldiers if they try to surrender
Source:

Disproof:
Kremlin propaganda continues its attempts to demonize Ukraine and Ukrainian military. This time, evil Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol are executing their own brothers in arms to prevent them from surrendering. As proof, the propagandists show a corpse of a man, who conveniently has all the documents needed to surrender clutched in his hand. Deeply cynical and incredibly stupid, as per russian propaganda standards.
As was stated by the President Zelenskyy, Ukrainian defenders of Mariupol can decide for themselves whether they want to surrender or not. The Armed Forces of Ukraine is not the red army, Ukrainians do not kill their own people. I guess that idea is too hard to grasp for russians.
FAKE: Thanks to russia there will be peace
Source:

Disproof:
There was peace in Europe, up to February 24, 2022. Then russia invaded Ukraine and started a war. So, the correct statement would be: “Thanks to russia there is no peace”.
FAKE: Ukraine is canceling May 9
Source:

Disproof:
Ukraine is not canceling May 9. This year, May 9 will happen after May 8, and before May 10, just as planned. The thing that got russian propagandists so mad is that Ukraine will no longer celebrate Victory Day on May 9, instead choosing to celebrate it on May 8, with the rest of Europe.
In the recent decades, May 9 as a date had become a focal point of the new fascist ideology of the russian state. It is fair to say that a huge portion of modern russian national identity is based on the victory in the Second World War, which russians attribute exclusively to themselves. All the notions of russian exceptionalism, “divine right to rule” and russian imperial superiority over other nations were carefully built moreover in victory, turning what was supposed to be a celebration of life and peace into a macabre ritual of fanatical self-righteousness, military boasting and fascism. We want to avoid being a part of that!
Be advised: russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
