Millions of Ukrainians are encountering russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, mass media, social networks, and word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of russian fakes.
FAKE: Mothers of Ukrainian PoWs do not want their kids to return to Ukraine
This fake is a continuation of a russian propaganda narrative about Ukrainians being unwilling to fight. Unfortunately for russia, in reality, the situation is reversed: Ukrainians are having trouble getting into the military since there are too many volunteers and not enough equipment for everyone, and in russia recruiters are having trouble finding men willing to join the russian army. There are multiple cases of russian PoWs refusing to be exchanged and returned to russia. Ukrainian PoWs are also being kept in horrible conditions, undergo torture, and many die in russian prisons.
Additionally, russia has a long tradition of treating its soldiers that were captured by the enemy as traitors or criminals. During WW II, thousands of Soviet soldiers released from German captivity were senteced to penal colonies, GULAGs, or were executed for being collaborators or “enemies of the people”.
Be advised: russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
