Information Warfare: russian fakes for June 28th, 2022

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, mass media, social networks, and word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of russian fakes.

FAKE: Kremenchuk missile attack is a fake

Disproof:

After the June 27 russian missile attack on a shopping mall in Kremenchuk, it was predictable that russia would deny any and all wrongdoing. But this time, the kremlin did not rush to provide an official statement on the attack. The blackout in the official media channels lasted for more than a day, with the first messages only appearing at noon on June 28. It is apparent that russian propaganda machine used the time to formulate a single official narrative about the attack. Official russian sources then claimed that the shopping mall was “closed”, there were no people inside, and the fire was caused by a successful missile strike on a nearby warehouse that stored NATO weapons.

The unofficial propaganda channels did not take any time to unify their stance and started spreading dozens of conflicting conspiracy theories about the attack, which, by their sheer volume, could “muddle the water” enough to confuse the western viewer and make them doubt any information about the attack. Some were saying that the attack was not made by russia (later denied by russian MoD), and the whole thing was staged. Others – that the real target was the city’s oil refinery, and that the bodies of victims were moved from the refinery to the shopping mall, which was then set on fire. The only thing that all the fakes have in common, is that no civilians were actually hurt and the bodies of the victims are fake or planted.

We once again see that russia is trying to deny and avoid responsibility by inventing wild fantasies and conspiracy theories. But, as always, the evidence speaks for itself. There were hundreds of eyewitnesses, local and international journalists, and the whole tragedy was filmed by multiple bystanders. No amount of lies will help russia to escape justice.
