Georgian diaspora in the US and US Ukrainian Activists (USUA) are joining forces on Sunday, Feb.19 during the #StandWithUkraineEveryDay Rally (daily organized by USUA at the White House) at 4PM to demand the immediate transfer of the Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili (a politically imprisoned Georgian ex-President) to a foreign hospital.
Mr. Saakashvili was arrested on October 1, 2021, upon his return to Georgia after 8 years in exile. His treatment in various prison facilities has been sharply criticized by Georgian and international human rights groups. According to Amnesty International, President Saakashvili’s treatment by authorities was “not just selective justice but apparent political revenge. Amid concerns of rapidly deteriorating health and citing severe human rights abuses, including torture and heavy metal poisoning, an independent team of U.S. medical experts has concluded that unless he is moved to a western treatment facility to receive life-saving care, his life is immediately threatened.
We look forward to seeing you! Slava Ukraini!
