One person was killed and six others were injured as Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on Odesa on the night of July 18-19.
The Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“Due to the attack, a woman was killed and six local residents sustained varying degrees of injuries. They are currently receiving medical assistance. Information about other potential victims is being clarified,” the statement reads.
Under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the commission of war crimes resulting in a fatality (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The prosecutor’s office added that on the night of July 18-19, Russian forces attacked Odesa with more than 20 strike drones. At least eight residential buildings were damaged, with one building sustaining complete destruction of nearly ten apartments.
Other structures were also damaged, including a medical laboratory, shops, a beauty salon, food establishments, and residents’ vehicles.
Inspection of the affected areas is ongoing, and the full extent of the destruction and damage is being assessed. Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, are documenting the consequences of Russia’s armed aggression.
Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Odesa region are conducting the pre-trial investigation.
Earlier reports said that the drone attack caused a fire in a nine-story residential building in Odesa. The fire was extinguished by emergency services with the help of volunteers. Five people were rescued from burning apartments, though tragically, one rescued woman later died.
