Three killed by exploding objects while swimming in sea in Odesa region

Three people died while swimming in the sea in the Odesa region as a result of two explosions.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Suspilne, referring to the regional police.

“Three people died while swimming in the sea as a result of two explosions of unknown objects,” the report said.

The Odesa Operational-Strategic Group added that the incident occurred in a zone where swimming is prohibited.

Investigative and operational groups, bomb disposal experts, and rescuers are currently working at the scene.

The Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, clarified on Telegram that the fatalities occurred in Zatoka and Karolino-Buhaz.

“Deadly danger in the water: three lives were lost due to ignoring prohibitions. One man died in Karolino-Buhaz, another man and a woman in Zatoka. All of them were blown up by explosive devices while swimming in areas prohibited for recreation,” he said.

Kiper reminded that there are 32 officially functioning safe swimming areas in the region: 30 in the city of Odesa, one in Chornomorsk, and one in Prymorske, Izmail district.

Each of them has undergone a comprehensive inspection to ensure the presence of shelters and the absence of mine hazards both on land and in the water.

According to reports, in June, two people were killed in the village of Zatoka, Odesa region, as a result of a mine explosion.
