Two Ukrinform correspondents awarded with Order of Merit

On the occasion of Journalist Day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has presented the Order of Merit (III degree) to two Ukrinform correspondents.

In particular, the Order of Merit (III degree) was presented to Iryna Staroselets, a staff correspondent from Kherson Region, and Oleksii Kovaliov, a photojournalist from Luhansk Region, for their “personal courage and selfless actions shown during the coverage of the Russian aggression and on the occasion of Journalist Day”.

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration Head Serhii Haidai, Kovaliov covered several kilometers daily to connect to the region’s only Starlink station, so that hundreds of thousands of Luhansk Region’s residents could see their houses and streets.

Kovaliov brought the Ukrainian flag to Kyiv from Sievierodonetsk. Today the President of Ukraine has put a message on this flag: “See you in Sloviansk, Luhansk and Sievierodonetsk”.

A reminder that Journalist Day is annually marked in Ukraine on June 6.
