The multilevel system of defense and high motivation of citizens to defend the city make impossible capture of Mykolaiv by Russian invaders.
That’s according to a local defense chief, Major General Dmytro Marchenko, who spoke in an interview with RFE/RL’s Crimea. Realities project, Ukrinform reports.
The general spoke of the three lines of defense set up around the city, adding that in all areas of potential breakthrough have been mined, which wasn’t the case initially.
“To take Mykolayiv… they would need to withdraw all their troops from all other areas, simply create a large reserve and try to break through with that massive reserve. I’ll tell you, even if they do, it will be difficult for them to accomplish,” Marchenko said.
He added that the attack on Mykolaiv is “practically a utopia,” and any Russian commander understands that if they failed to capture Mykolayiv in the first days of the war, new such attempts will now be a one-way ticket for the occupiers.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the head of the Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, said that the enemy was not going on an offensive in Mykolaiv region, while constantly firing at frontline communities and the city.
