Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin and a former judge of the International Criminal Court, Sir Howard Morrison, have discussed possible areas of continuing cooperation and expert assistance in the process of investigating war crimes.
According to Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office said this in a statement on Telegram.
Kostin thanked Morrison for his personal visit to Ukraine, support for the Ukrainian people and professional assistance in the work of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
He also informed the former ICC judge about the comprehensive work of the Ukrainian law enforcement system under the coordination of the prosecutor’s office, both at the national and international levels, which is carried out to restore justice and win the fight against impunity.
Morrison noted that the special training of judges of national courts to handle war crimes cases is extremely important to ensure justice and the rule of law. He also added that he would continue to support and share expert knowledge that would help bring war criminals to justice.
Kostin earlier said that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian law enforcement officers have recorded more than 300 facts that can be defined as genocide, with five proceedings already being investigated.
