The air defense systems of the NATO allies and Ukraine should begin to jointly shoot down Russian missiles as deep as possible over the territory of Ukraine. Such a move would serve to de-escalate and ensure that missile attacks on NATO territory are prevented.
This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Vice Speaker of Lithuania’s Seimas Paulius Saudargas, according to Ukrinform.
“I strongly support the idea to deploy air defense systems at the border between NATO and Ukraine, at least in Poland. That would contribute to the protection of Ukrainian sky as deep into its territory as possible, at the same time protecting NATO itself. I am certain that such improvement would mean not the escalation of war with Russia, but quite the reverse – it would help reaching de-escalation by ensuring the prevention of missile strikes in the territory of NATO,” the politician said.
“Special attention should be drawn to the creation of air defense shield over nuclear power plants in Ukraine, thus Western countries must provide adequate air defense systems,” summed up Saudargas.
Earlier, the European Union and the United States placed on the Russian Federation full responsibility for the missile strike that killed two on Polish soil.
As reported, in the village of Przewodów, Lublin Voivodeship, near the Polish-Ukrainian border, two people died as a result of a missile explosion on November 15.
Poland and the USA, relying on their preliminary assessment, claim it was a missile of the Ukrainian air defense system. Ukraine is challenging this version.
Ukrainian experts arrived in Poland to participate in the inquiry.
Meanwhile, Russian propaganda is trying to exploit the tragic incident in Przewodów toincite enmity between Ukrainians and Poles, according to Poland’s media space security watchdog.
