Russian armed aggression affects over 1,352 children in Ukraine

A total of 455 children have been killed and over 897 injured in Ukraine since the Russian invasion started.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“As of January 16, 2023, over 1,352 children in Ukraine were affected by the Russian armed aggression. According to the data from juvenile prosecutors, a total of 455 children were killed and over 897 received injuries of various severity levels,” the report states.

These data are not final, as they are being investigated within the areas of hostilities, temporarily occupied and liberated areas.

Currently, most casualties were recorded in the Donetsk region (429), Kharkiv region (269), Kyiv region (117), Zaporizhzhia region (84), Kherson region (83), Mykolaiv region (82), Chernihiv region (68), Luhansk region (66) and Dnipropetrovsk region (56).

The body of a 4-year-old child was found at the site of a 9-storey apartment block, which was struck by a Russian missile in the city of Dnipro on January 14, 2023. Rescue works continue.

On January 16, 2023, Russian troops launched two missile strikes on the city of Zaporizhzhia. A 5-storey apartment block was damaged, and three children were reported injured. A 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital.

As a result of Russia’s daily air and artillery strikes, a total of 3,126 educational institutions were damaged across Ukraine, and 337 of them were destroyed completely.
