On February 26, Ukraine marks Day of Resistance to Russia’s Occupation of Crimea.

Nine years ago, Russian sabotage groups started attempts to seize the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

On February 26, 2014, at the initiative of the Mejlis, thousands of Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian activists gathered outside the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea to show resistance against the Russian occupation and in support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

At 05:00 a.m., February 27, 2014, Russian regular troops seized government premises in Crimea.

On February 26, 2020, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed Decree No. 58/2020, declaring February 26 the Day of Resistance to Occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
