Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU) calls on the Rome Statute parties to take measures to implement the International Criminal Court (ICC) decision. The latter is to issue an arrest warrant for Putin and Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.
This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak in Telegram, Ukrinform says.
“The VRU approved an appeal to the Rome Statute parties to take all possible measures to implement the ICC’s decision,” Zheleznyak wrote.
According to him, the corresponding resolution (on the need to prosecute those responsible for committing the most serious crimes under international law in Ukraine, No. 9122) was supported by 335 parliamentarians.
In particular, the VRU appeals to the parliaments and governments of foreign countries, international organizations, and inter-parliamentary assemblies. The VRU asks them to condemn the most serious crimes under international law committed by Russian armed forces and Russian occupation administrations in Ukraine. The same applies to Russian political and military leadership.
The VRU calls for all possible measures to be taken to investigate these crimes and hold accountable all those responsible.
The VRU also appeals to the international community to exert the toughest political and sanctions pressure on Russia and its officials, including the highest leadership.
In addition, the VRU urges the Rome Statute parties to take all possible measures to implement the ICC’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova. The VRU also stresses their further transfer to the ICC’s disposal.
At the same time, the VRU asks states and other stakeholders to provide the maximum possible support to the activities of the International Center for the Prosecution of Crimes of Aggression against Ukraine. This is necessary to speed up and strengthen the investigation by obtaining key evidence.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on March 17, the ICC issued arrest warrants for the said individuals.
These individuals are suspected of war crimes (illegal deportation and displacement of people, including children, from the occupied territory of Ukraine since at least February 24, 2022).
