Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has called on EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell to help finalize as soon as possible the discussions on the second EUR 1 billion tranche for the joint procurement of ammunition for Ukraine.

Ukraine’s foreign policy chief reported this on Twitter, according to Ukrinform.

“In our call, I thanked Josep Borrell for all the EU’s defense assistance, including the latest EUR 1 billion for immediate ammo needs. I called on HRVP to help finalize discussions on the 2nd EUR 1 billion joint procurement tranche as soon as possible to ensure security in Europe,” Kuleba said.

The EU earlier approved the decision on the rapid supply of 1 million ammunition rounds to Ukraine. To achieve this goal, the EU countries agreed to allocate EUR 1 billion from the European Peace Facility to compensate the EU countries for the supply of existing ammunition and EUR 1 billion to increase the capabilities of the European defense industry in the production of artillery shells to send them to Ukraine and to replenish EU stocks.

According to media reports, over a dispute between France and Poland, the ambassadors of the EU countries could not resolve their differences regarding joint EU contracts for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.
