German government starts forming security assistance package to Ukraine

The formation of the security assistance package to Ukraine announced by Berlin has already begun.

“For some types of weapons, contracts have already been concluded,” Nadine Krüger, a spokeswoman for Germany’s defense ministry, told a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to her, the production of the latest IRIS-T SLM air defense systems continues. The spokeswoman clarified that the package includes four such systems in addition to the four announced earlier.

As noted, the next security assistance package to Ukraine worth more than EUR 2.7 billion includes, in particular, 18 wheeled howitzers, artillery rounds, guided missiles for air defense systems, four IRIS-T SLM systems, IRIS-T SLS launchers, 30 Leopard 1A5 tanks and 20 Marder IFVs, more than 100 armored fighting vehicles, more than 200 reconnaissance drones, etc.

As reported, since the beginning of the war, Germany has provided support to Ukraine to the tune of about EUR 17 billion.
