The U.S. Department of Defense has specified that given the term for training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, the deployment of infrastructure and other components, providing Ukraine with these fighter jets is part of a long-term commitment.

That’s according to a readout published on the website of the U.S. Department of Defense on Tuesday following the phone call between U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin with Ukrainian Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov, Ukrinform reports.

It is noted that the meeting “will focus on sustaining Ukraine’s armored maneuver capabilities and bolstering Ukraine’s air defenses against Russia’s continued brutal attacks.”

The Pentagon chief told the Ukrainian defense minister about recent U.S. security assistance efforts.

“The two leaders pledged to remain in close contact,” the document says.

As reported by Ukrinform, the previous, 11th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, took place on April 21.
