Around 20 Ukrainian pilots will take initial training on the F-16 in the UK.
That’s according to Foreign Policy, citing an unnamed British government official, Ukrinform reports.
According to the source, this will be basic ground training for Ukrainian pilots, after which they will be ready for more specialized training in flying F-16 fighters or other military aircraft.
It is noted that Ukraine plans to send pilots with good English language skills to the training to speed up the training process.
Training under the NATO course will be conducted on simulators and real aircraft.
Earlier, the spokesman for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, said that the United States had tested Ukrainian pilots who would be flying F-16s, which led to the conclusion that they could retrain Ukrainian combat pilots in four months.
As reported Ukrinform, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway have also expressed their willingness to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s.
Portugal can train Ukrainian pilots, but cannot send its aircraft, said Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho.
Italy is currently considering, together with its allies, the possibility of training Ukrainian pilots on Western military aircraft.
