A 53-year-old man was killed in the village of Vasylivka, Mykolaiv region, as a result of flooding caused by the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.
The chief of police of Mykolaiv region Serhii Shaikhet wrote this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“Due to the blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the occupiers, the territories of Snihurivka, Shyroke and Horokhivske communities in Mykolaiv region are flooded. At the moment, we have one victim – a 53-year-old man from the village of Vasylivka, who refused to be evacuated yesterday,” the statement said.
Shaikhet emphasized that local police are working in an enhanced mode and are patrolling the area on boats to identify people in need of assistance. He urged local residents not to neglect the opportunity to evacuate to safe areas and call 102 if necessary.
