Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has strongly condemned recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure on the Danube River near Ukraine’s border with Romania.
He said this on Twitter, according to Ukrinform.
“I strongly condemn the recent Russian attacks against the Ukrainian🇺🇦 civilian infrastructure on Danube, very close to Romania. This recent escalation poses serious risks to the security in the Black Sea. It also affects further Ukrainian grain transit & thus the global food security,” Iohannis wrote.
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu also condemned recent Russian attacks on Ukraine near the Romanian border, according to Romania Journal.
He said the targeting of port infrastructure is yet another proof of Russia’s intention to undermine Ukrainian grain exports to global markets, seriously damaging world food security.
“The deterioration of global food security is one of the multiple consequences of the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Romania will continue to support Ukraine in order to identify practical solutions for the continuation of additional grain exports to global markets,” Ciolacu added.
On the night of July 23 to July 24, Russia launched an almost four-hour attack involving Shahed-136 kamikaze drones at the port infrastructure on the Danube.
Ukraine’s Operational Command South said that Ukrainian air defenses had intercepted three Shahed-136 drones. As a result of the strikes, a grain hangar was destroyed, tanks for storing other types of cargo were damaged, and a fire broke out in one of the production premises.
