Germany will continue to support Ukraine because Ukraine must not lose the war.
German Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, who is visiting Kyiv on August 14, posted this on X (formerly known as Twitter) account of the Ministry he heads.
“It is about the future of the European order of peace and freedom. Ukraine cannot lose this war,” the politician told German journalists in Kyiv. He added that Russia was attacking Ukraine for its choice in favor of democracy.
Lindner assured Ukraine of continued support from the German government. During the day, he discusses specific directions and forms of such support with Ukrainian politicians.
In particular, the German finance minister reminded about the help from the federal government to Ukraine and those seeking asylum in Germany totaling 22 billion euros. Germany’s military aid to Ukraine exceeds 12 billion euros. Germany is also ready to participate in the reconstruction of the destroyed infrastructure.
“We will support Ukraine politically, militarily, and financially until it wins this war,” Lindner stated back on the anniversary of the start of the Russian war.
He also said that being in Kyiv was a special and touching moment for him. He already visited Ukraine at the beginning of 2020.
In Kyiv, Lindner has already met with Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Lindner arrived in Kyiv on the morning of August 14 – this is his first visit to the Ukrainian capital since the beginning of the full-scale war. The German government official is to hold political talks in Kyiv.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and several other ministers visited Ukraine.
