MoD Shmyhal discusses construction of shell manufacturing plant in Ukraine with Rheinmetall CEO

Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal discussed the key stages of construction of an artillery shell production plant with Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall Group.

According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal announced this on Telegram.

“I had a conversation with Armin Papperger, head of the Rheinmetall Group. He is our long-standing and important partner. We have exemplary cooperation in three areas: armored vehicles, ammunition, and air defense systems,” the minister said.

According to him, the focus is now on the development of joint projects in Ukraine, in particular the construction of a factory for the production of artillery shells. “We discussed the key stages and working issues. We are moving according to plan. We have defined improved coordination mechanisms. We are working together clearly and quickly. We value our cooperation,” Shmyhal emphasized.

As the head of the Ministry of Defense noted, “we are involving defense companies from around the world in the creation of production and R&D centers in Ukraine. We are building a force that will stop aggression and ensure lasting peace.”

According to media reports, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said that the pace of construction of the ammunition plant in Ukraine is not progressing as quickly as desired, but its capacity will be twice as large as previously expected.
