Smetanin appointed Head of Ukroboronprom for second time

The Supervisory Board of Ukrainian Defense Industry JSC (Ukoboronprom) has appointed German Smetanin as CEO following a competition.

Ukroboronprom announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“Following the results of the competition for the position of CEO of Ukrainian Defense Industry JSC, the Supervisory Board of the Company appointed a new head, German Smetanin,” the statement said.

It is noted that the search, selection, and evaluation of 14 candidates was conducted by the international company Odgers Berndtson.

The decision to appoint a new CEO was made after final interviews with the candidates who made it to the shortlist based on the results of the preliminary assessment.

“German Smetanin has gained unique work experience and is well-versed in both internal business processes and the organization of the defense industry at the government level. This combination of knowledge and skills will enable him to effectively organize the day-to-day work of Ukroboronprom and provide a strategic vision for the further development of the industry,” commented David Lomdzharia, Chairman of the company’s Supervisory Board.

As reported, on July 21, the Cabinet of Ministers merged the Ministry of Strategic Industries, headed by German Smetanin, with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. From June 2023 to September 2024, Smetanin held the position of CEO of JSC Ukrainian Defense Industry.
