Expert believes Ukraine can replace diesel fuel supplies from Slovakia

If Slovakia decides to halt the delivery of diesel fuel to Ukraine, alternative suppliers can be found. At the same time, this may adversely affect the Slovak side itself.

The relevant statement was made by A95 Consulting Group Director Serhii Kuiun in a commentary to Ukrinform.

“This will not be critical. We receive 10% of our monthly diesel supply from Slovakia. We have every opportunity to replace this volume from other sources,” Kuiun told.

In his words, interrupting diesel fuel supplies for Ukraine may adversely affect Slovakia itself.

“There is a lot of fuel on the market, and everyone is competing to attract buyers. Slovakia may ‘lose’ us, while we pay a very good price,” Kuiun explained.

According to the expert, if Slovakia decides to halt the delivery of diesel fuel to Ukraine, but its oil refineries keep running, the country may face issues with finding other buyers.

In addition, Slovakia has the opportunity to increase the supply of non-Russian oil, although the latter is more expensive. In this case, the opportunity to earn on the so-called ‘corruption discount’ that Slovakia has from Russia will disappear.

“The earnings from this discount will disappear, and we as a buyer will disappear. Thus, they will also have no one to sell this expensive fuel to,” Kuiun concluded.

A reminder that Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanár stated earlier that Ukrainian attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline contradict not only Bratislava’s national interests but also allegedly harm Ukraine itself.
