Culture vs War project dubbed documentaries in world’s most spoken languages

The project Culture vs War has dubbed six Ukrainian documentaries into the world’s most spoken languages to convey the truth about Russia’s war against Ukraine in English, Spanish, and Arabic.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Head of the Watch Ukrainian! Association, initiator and producer of the Culture vs War project, and Honorary Ambassador in the Field of Cultural Diplomacy, Andriy Rizol.

According to him, since April 2022, 405 events of the project have covered 183 cities in 48 countries worldwide. The audience included influential politicians, diplomats and international organizations, volunteers, activists, and communities. To ensure maximum audience outreach, it was decided to dub the films into the most widespread languages. In particular, English – the world’s No. 1 international communication language and the third most spoken language by number of speakers; Spanish – the most popular language in the world with 534 million speakers and official in 22 countries on 4 continents; Arabic – the most widespread Semitic language spoken in Western Asia and North Africa by about 240 million native speakers and another 50 million as a second language.

According to the project’s authors, Russia is actively funding disinformation campaigns about its war against Ukraine, particularly in the Global South, in order to undermine support for Ukraine and promote its narratives about the world order. The Ukrainian project “Culture vs War” is an informational and artistic response to these threats.

In particular, short-story films were dubbed that convey the truth about Russia’s war against Ukraine through the stories of struggle of well-known Ukrainian artists, recognized not only in Ukraine but also abroad:

Culture vs War. Akhtem Seitablaiev

Culture vs War. Serhiy Zhadan

Culture vs War. Serhii Mykhalchuk

Culture vs War. Antytila

Culture vs War. Kostiantyn and Vlada Liberov

Culture vs War. Taras Kompanichenko

Professional translators as well as artificial intelligence tools were involved in the dubbing process.

The films are being distributed on multimedia and streaming platforms, on YouTube, and on TV channels in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, South Africa (RSA), Mexico, and India.

The project is implemented by the Watch Ukrainian! Association with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine.
