UN Security Council to hold emergency meeting over latest Russian strikes on Ukraine

The United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency meeting at Ukraine’s request to discuss Russia’s large-scale aerial attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on August 28.

According to Ukrinform’s correspondent in New York, the session will begin at 15:00 EST (22:00 Kyiv time) on August 29 under the agenda item “Maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine.”

Ukraine’s delegation will brief the international community on the scale of destruction and call for an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians.

Earlier that same day, the Ukrainian delegation, led by Presidential Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, will also hold talks in New York with U.S. Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff.
