Russian special services may be involved in organizing the murder of former Verkhovna Rada Chairman and MP Andriy Parubiy, according to employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police, and the Office of the Prosecutor General.

This was reported by the SSU, according to Ukrinform.

As noted in the report, law enforcement officers obtained the relevant information during initial investigative and operational measures with the detained suspect.

The Head of the SSU Office in Lviv Region, Vadym Onyshchenko, said that “the crime has signs of being a contract killing. There is operational information indicating the possible involvement of the Russian Federation’s special services in organizing the murder. We are working with our law enforcement colleagues to identify all those involved in this blatant crime, confirm the sources of information, and collect evidence.”

The special service reminded that on the night of August 31 to September 1, the SSU, the National Police, and the Prosecutor’s Office detained a man suspected of murdering Parubiy.

Thanks to coordinated actions, law enforcement officers found a direct trail of the suspect within 24 hours of the attack, and within 36 hours, he was detained.

The suspect’s actions were classified under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 1 of Article 115 (intentional murder) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons).

The investigation and arrest were personally supervised by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
