Rheinmetall, the largest German arms manufacturer, is building a maintenance center in Romania to service Western military equipment used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine
This is reported by ntv, according to Ukrinform.
“Rheinmetall is actively working to establish a military maintenance and logistics center in Romania, a NATO partner country,” said a company representative. According to him, work on the site near Satu Mare city has already begun.
The center, located near the border with Ukraine, is expected to begin operation as soon as this month. It is noted that the hub “should play a central role in maintaining the operational readiness of western combat systems in use in Ukraine and ensuring the availability of logistical support.”
According to the company, the center will service self-propelled howitzers, Leopard 2 and Challenger tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Fuchs armoured transport vehicles and military trucks. The center will also provide support to NATO vehicles.
“It is a key concern for us at Rheinmetall to provide the NATO forces and Ukraine with the best possible support,” said Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said. He stressed that the process of maintenance and repair of weapons supplied to Ukraine plays an important role in protection against Russian aggression.
ntv reminded that Rheinmetall, together with its partner company KMW, established a similar maintenance center in the Lithuanian city of Jonava in June 2022.
As reported, a delegation of Germany’s Rheinmetall AG defense concern visited Kyiv and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky at the end of last week.
