Demining the Ukrainian territory is a challenge for both the military and farmers as the Ministry of Economy alone has requested 150 relevant systems.
That’s according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who spoke at a joint press conference with the head of the Irish government, Leo Varadkar, in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We have challenges (regarding demining – ed.) and they vary. We have them on the battlefield where our soldiers have to go through these hundreds of kilometers of minefields, and also this is a challenge for Ukrainian farmers… When we talk about demining, we must understand that we currently have a request from the Ministry of Economy for about 150 demining systems, for example, for the agri-industrial complex alone,” the head of state said.
Ireland is helping Ukraine with two such systems, Zelensky added.
In addition, the president noted that negotiations on the delivery of demining equipment are also ongoing with Slovakia, Croatia, Japan, and Canada.
According to the president, it is really difficult to get such a volume of required systems from abroad.
As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that the Ukrainian counteroffensive of the Ukrainian defense forces is not going easily as the Russian invaders have mined 200,000 square km of Ukrainian territory.
