Ukraine is working on obtaining modern fighter jets that will help the armed forces offset Russia’s current superiority in the sky over Ukraine.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a press conference following the meeting with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of Sweden, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We have no aerial superiority, we have no modern aircraft. The Swedish Gripen is the pride of your state, and I believe that the Prime Minister could share such pride with Ukraine. We are working on it. It is important that we took powerful steps, it is important that now for several weeks actions will be taken that will reveal the possibility of obtaining the appropriate aircraft,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
He added that Ukraine clearly understands its own weaknesses and strengths in this war with the Russian aggressor. The Ukrainian military is fighting on its soil and is very motivated, it is doing everything “possible and impossible” in the most difficult areas of the front while Russia is retreating there or losing thousands of its people every week.
The president of Ukraine also announced that starting Sunday, August 20, he would hold talks with several leaders in this regard.
“I am sure that together with our partners we will do everything and achieve the appropriate result in the sky so that the Russians do not have this superiority. When they control the sky, unfortunately we cannot move quickly on the ground. But we need this,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Saturday, August 19, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine during a visit to Sweden held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson.
