Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.
FAKE: Ukrainian hackers are terrorizing western businesses
Source:
Disproof:
Russian propaganda is attempting to claim that Ukrainians are threatening the western businesses that continue to operate in Russia and thus indirectly sponsoring russian war crimes against Ukrainian people. Ukrainian diplomacy and diaspora are indeed doing all they can to persuade such businesses to leave the russian market. But Ukrainians are not using threats.
Anonymous is a decentralized international hacker and activist group. It has no allegiance to any countries or political blocks. Hackers of this group choose their targets on their own, mostly as a protest against inhumane, tyrannical and amoral actions of countries and organizations. Anonymous had targeted al-Qaeda and ISIS in the past.
FAKE: neo-Nazis had blown up ammonia tanks in Sumy
Source:
Disproof:
There were multiple reports about the russian plans to use chemical weapons in Ukraine in a false flag operation. As we see, this happened today: there was an ammonia leak as a result of russian bombing of Sumykhimprom chemical plant. The plant was working normally, using up the ammonia that it had received before the war. Fortunately, the leak was stopped without any serious consequences, but this bombing could have caused a man-made disaster on a regional scale.
As always, Russia is attempting to blame Ukraine for its own war crimes.
FAKE: Ukraine is forcefully drafting Ukrainian men into the army as “reservists”
Source:
Disproof:
Russia, while desperately attempting to replenish the ranks of their armed forces after the losses they had sustained in Ukraine, are attempting to blame Ukraine for doing the same. Unfortunately, russian propagandists haven’t even checked the Ukrainian military terminology while writing this fake. Reservists in Ukraine are those soldiers and officers who served in the Armed Forces (second class) and had combat experience (first class). Ukraine had indeed announced full mobilization, so able-bodied men could be drafted into the ranks of AFU, but there is no need to force anyone: there are giant lines to the military enlistment offices around the country.
Curiously, “cannon fodder” is how russian soldiers describe the attitude towards them in their intercepted phone calls.
FAKE: Congresswoman had accused Ukraine of torturing civilians
Source:
Disproof:
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene did indeed accuse Ukraine in torturing civilians and being a Nazi state. In her tweets, she refers to a compilation of videos where Ukrainian civilians and Territorial Guards punish marauders by tying them to lamp posts and whipping their asses. The compilation is posted by a propagandist account that rebroadcasts russian propaganda word by word, and no context is provided.
Marjorie Taylor repeats the russian narratives and demands to stop supplying Ukraine with weapons. It should be noted that Taylor had made controversial statements multiple times, publicly endorsed wild conspiracy theories and called for citizens to arm themselves to prevent the COVID-19 vaccination campaign – all to attack democrats and President Biden.
Marjorie Taylor should not be taken seriously, since, as history has shown, she will say anything to advance her political ambitions.
