30-meter Ukrainian flag unfurled in front of European Parliament

Ukraine’s Mission to the European Union marked Ukraine’s National Flag Day in Brussels with the traditional unfurling of a 30-meter Ukrainian flag in front of the European Parliament.

The Mission’s press service reported this on Facebook, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

The ceremony was opened by Ukraine’s Ambassador to the EU Vsevolod Chentsov followed by remarks from Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defence and Space, and Sergey Lagodinsky, Chair of the Euronest Delegation of the European Parliament.

Also in attendance was Alessandro Chiocchetti, Secretary-General of the European Parliament.

Speaking to those gathered, Ambassador Chentsov stressed:

“What we hold here today is so much more than a national emblem. It is a symbol of centuries of struggle and generations of sacrifice, the symbol of the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainians. I am confident that in the near future, Ukrainian flag will find its place in the EU institutions not only as a gesture of solidarity, but also as the flag of a full-fledged EU member.”
