
Russian propagandist, former head of RIA Novosti Ukraine news agency, and executive director of Russia Today, Kyrylo Vyshynskyi, who had been charged with treason in Ukraine, died in Moscow.
This was reported by Radio Liberty, according to Ukrinform.
It is noted that 58-year-old Vyshynskyi died after a long illness.
He was born in Dnipro (formerly Dnipropetrovsk) and worked as a correspondent for the Russian VGTRK (All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company) in Ukraine, later heading RIA Novosti Ukraine.
In 2014, Vyshynskyi was awarded Russia’s state Medal “For the Return of Crimea” and the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland, and later obtained Russian citizenship.
In 2018, Ukraine’s Security Service charged Vyshynskyi with encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and with treason. In 2019, he was handed over to the Russian side as part of a prisoner exchange in the 35-for-35 format.
Later, he was appointed executive director of the Russia Today news agency under the leadership of Dmitriy Kiselyov and included in the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights in Russia. In March 2023, Vyshynskyi spoke at a UN Security Council meeting, accusing Ukraine of “Russophobia” and “oppression of Russian-speaking citizens.”
During the 2024 Russian presidential elections, Vyshynskyi served as a trusted representative of Putin.
As reported by Ukrinform, in June, the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld a second claim by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine to impose sanctions on pro-Russian propagandist Kyrylo Vyshynskyi and confiscated more than 10 million hryvnias from him.
In February, assets owned by Vyshynskyi were seized in favor of the state, including two real estate properties, two vehicles, as well as his shares in the authorized capital of Interselect LLC and Novostkom Expert LLC.
