In Germany, U.S. citizen accused of spying for China

On Monday, August 25, German prosecutors charged a U.S. citizen with offering to pass confidential military information to Chinese intelligence.

This was reported by Politico, according to Ukrinform.

It is noted that the former contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense is accused of acting as an agent of a foreign intelligence service.

The indictment was sent to the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz.

According to the investigation, Martin D. worked for a civilian contractor in the defense sector from 2017 to the spring of 2023. Starting in 2020, he worked at a U.S. military base in Germany. In the summer of 2024, according to the investigation, the man repeatedly approached Chinese government officials and offered to pass on secret information related to the U.S. military.

German law enforcement officers detained him in November 2024 at Frankfurt Airport after obtaining an arrest warrant.

The man has been in custody since then.

As reported by Ukrinform, the colonel, who worked as part of the Swiss delegation to the OSCE in Vienna, was suspended from his duties and recalled home amid allegations of passing information to the Russian delegation.
