Josep Borrell is convinced that the Russian occupiers who have committed sexual violence in Ukraine must be held accountable.
“Unspeakable crimes are being reported from liberated regions in Ukraine. Sexual violence as weapon of war against women & children among atrocities committed by Russian troops. Perpetrators must be held accountable,” Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, posted on Twitter.

On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops shell and destroy key infrastructure facilities, massively fire on the residential areas of Ukrainian cities, towns, and villages using artillery, MLRS, ballistic missiles, and air bombs.
Mass cases of violence by the Russian military have been reported in villages and towns in Ukraine liberated from the Russian occupiers.
In particular, after the occupiers fled Kyiv region, the world saw the results of their atrocities which killed hundreds of people. Bodies of civilians tortured, raped, and killed by Russians were found in Bucha, Irpin, and along the Zhytomyr highway.
