U.S. President Joe Biden has assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of imposing tough sanctions on Russia, as well as continuing military and other support to Ukraine amid Russia’s armed aggression.

That’s according to an official statement by the U.S. leader published on the White House website after a phone call with the Ukrainian president, Ukrinform reports.

“I condemned this unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces. I briefed him [President Zelensky] on the steps we are taking to rally international condemnation, including tonight at the United Nations Security Council,” Biden said.

He also said that the Ukrainian leader had asked him to call on the leaders of the world to speak out clearly against President Putin’s flagrant aggression, and to stand with the people of Ukraine.

“Tomorrow, I will be meeting with the Leaders of the G7, and the United States and our Allies and partners will be imposing severe sanctions on Russia,” Biden said.

Zelensky earlier addressed Ukrainians on Thursday and announced the imposition of martial law across Ukraine.
