Information Warfare: russian fakes for March 15th 2022 (at 18:00)

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

FAKE: A laptop with images of Ukrainian plans to strike Donetsk was captured

Source:

Disproof:

Russian propagandists are trying to blame Ukraine for a missile strike in the heart of Donetsk. This information is spread by the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, without any evidence to substantiate their claims.

The Ukrainian MoD had already stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine hadn’t attacked Donetsk.

Russian propagandists had invented a tale: the russian forces had captured a laptop, that conveniently had “plans” for the missile strike. But, the laptop didn’t even have Ukrainian letters on the keyboard, and the spelling on the picture is misspelled – it uses russian letters instead of Ukrainian. It is also unclear where the laptop was supposed to come from, since the strike, as told by the propagandists, was launched from Prokrovsk, which is under Ukrainian control.

FAKE: Nazi literature was found in Kherzon Regional Council building

Source:

Disproof:

Russian propagandists in the occupied Kherson are trying once again to accuse Ukraine of propagating Nazi ideology. But the evidence – a room with a Ukrainian flag and a book about the War in Donbass, is hardly anything.

FAKE: UAV that crashed in Romania was Ukrainian

Source:

Disproof:

This one is pretty simple. You can easily spot that the UAV in the photo is a russian UAV Orlan-10 (see pictures below). This UAV is used by Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

FAKE: Ukraine had attacked Belarus to drag it into the war

Source:

Disproof:

Self-proclaimed Belarus President Oleksandr Lukashenko had commented on the explosions on the Belarus territory that happened a couple of days ago. To remind you, it was at that time that Ukrainian Intelligence had warned about a russian false-flag operation to drag Belarus into the war. Those russian strikes did occur on March 11, but Belarus MoD had claimed that no such attack had taken place. Now Lukashenko is claiming that the Ukrainians did attack Belarus territory with a ballistic missile, even though the locals had reported an airstrike: two planes flew into Ukrainian airspace from Belarus, explosions were heard, and then the planes flew back.

FAKE: Crime rates are rising in Ukraine

Source:

Disproof:

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, crime rates in all the cities had declined sharply, mostly due to tight cooperation between the police and the communities. All the criminals that were given pardons are serving in the Armed Forces. There is a marauder problem, but it’s mostly caused by russian soldiers.

FAKE: Hungarians and Ruthenians of Zakarpattya are planning a referendum about secession to Hungary

Source:

Disproof:

This fake was initially spread back on February 24, in conjunction with the beginning of the war. It was disproved by the head of Democratic Union of Hungarians of Ukraine, Laslo Zubanych. On the Union Facebook page there is a statement: “We strongly refuse all attempts to violate the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Hungarians of Zakarpattia are lawful and loyal citizens of the country that we all have been building for the last thirty years. So we condemn any attempts by the outside forces to create tension between the citizens of our region, including the false claims about some “referendum”.

FAKE: Apple has added russian “Mir” cards as a payment option for Apple ID

Source:

Disproof:

Russian propaganda is posing something that was done almost a year ago as a recent russian victory. Apple has added “Mir” as a payment option back in summer of 2021. This is another attempt by russian propaganda to create an illusion that the sanctions are weakening. But that is far from the truth.

Be advised: Russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
