Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.
FAKE: Russian invasion of Ukraine is the fastest military advance in history
Scott Ritter is one of the so-called “experts” on the Kremlin’s payroll, and he is a popular guest on russian media channels. There he aptly parrots the talking points of russian propaganda about the imminent russian victory. In one such appearance on February 25th, he authoritatively stated that the Mariupol was taken in one hour. As a reminder – after three weeks of heavy fighting, the russian army still cannot take Mariupol. So, they decided to annihilate the city along with all its inhabitants.
Regarding the russian military might and the “fastest military advance” claim – it’s complete nonsense. French infantry in Napoleonic campaigns often advanced faster than the mechanized russian army did in Ukraine. Even the official spokesman for the russian MoD avoids talking about the russian advances in the last few days.
We can also compare the russian invasion of Ukraine with the “Desert Storm”, where the US and Coalition troops had, in 100 hours, liberated Kuwait, destroyed the Iraqi army and moved deep into its territory, forcing a ceasefire.
FAKE: “Azov” battalion had destroyed a pool complex in the Mariupol city center
After fakes about the maternity clinic and the theater, russian propagandists switched to the pool complex that russia destroyed the same day as the Drama Theater. We can, once again, see the accusations towards the “Azov” battalion and the attempts to shift blame for russian war crimes onto the same people they are murdering. Russian propagandists cannot invent anything new and keep using the same vile and cowardly ploys.
As a reminder, russian forces had destroyed about 80% of Mariupol during the siege.
Be advised: Russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
