Information Warfare: russian fakes for April 1st 2022 (at 18:00)

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

Today, the russian information space is dominated by the news about the helicopter strike against russian Belgorod. Propagandists are shocked after the rapid withdrawal of russian forces on multiple fronts. The victorious campaign, which was glorified by russia, suddenly stopped being victorious, and judging by the propagandists’ reaction, the state media was not informed about the military-political decisions of the government. Caught surprised, propagandists are setting out to adapt to reality that had crushed most of their narratives about the war. The hunt for the “enemies of the people” continues, and all the media personalities that publicly did not endorse the war are free game.

Main fake narratives:

  • World is blind to Ukrainian war crimes
  • Sanctions against Russia are destroying Europe
  • Ukrainian biolabs
  • Russophobia is dominating the world

FAKE: Kids in US and Europe are being mentally disfigured

Source:

Disproof:

We see the triumphant return of a classic russian fake. Following in the footsteps of all fascist regimes, russia paints western countries as decadent and morally bankrupt, contrasting the “devastating” European values of liberty, equality, and acceptance with the “orthodox” homophobia, patriarchy, and intolerance. According to the Kremlin worldview, these dark and archaic “values” put russia on a moral high ground. This is why the narrative about the “corruption” of children by the liberal ideas is still going strong – it’s the only way russia can prove to its populace it has an advantage over the west.

FAKE: Ukraine is planning to break the Geneva conventions

Source:

Disproof:

Another attempt to discredit Ukraine. Ukrainian government officials had stated multiple times that AFU and other military units are complying with international laws and norms, including those concerning prisoners of war. There is no evidence of Ukraine breaking the Geneva Conventions. This is a part of the traditional russian narrative: “everyone who’s against us is a villain”.

FAKE: Europe lacks independence and strategic autonomy

Source:

Disproof:

Although Europe is closely tied to the US, the economic and diplomatic policies of the EU countries often run counter to American desires. The construction of the Nordic Stream-2 is one of the latest examples of such disagreements. It is absurd to say that the EU is blindly following US orders.

FAKE: Britain opposes an “early” peace deal between Ukraine and russia

Source:

Disproof:

Russian propaganda is misquoting the articles of respected foreign press outlets once again. The Times article does not state that the UK is against an early peace settlement. The article talks about the UK’s government concern that the allies were “over-eager” to secure an early peace deal on terms unfavorable for Ukraine. The official London thinks that a settlement should be reached only when Ukraine is in the strongest possible position.

FAKE: NATO will fight “to the last Ukrainian”

Source:

Disproof:

Such statements are a part of the narrative about the “external management” of Ukraine. Russian propaganda had tried for many years to prove that Ukraine was being controlled by the west. Russia even used this as a pretext for its invasion. But NATO is not a part of the war. EU and NATO are supporting Ukraine with weapons and humanitarian aid, they provide financial support, but it is Ukraine and its Armed Forces that are resisting the russian onslaught. The Ukrainian people had chosen to take a stand, in the air and on the ground, on the fields and in the cities. And the Ukrainian people will fight until the last russian.

Be advised: Russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
