UNESCO snubs planned Russia venue for annual event

The UNESCO Committee granted the request of the Ukrainian side to cancel its session set to be held in Russia.

This was announced on Telegram by Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko, Ukrinform reports.

“Another victory for our cultural front. The 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will not take place in Kazan. The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has learned about the positive decision on our appeal  “the statement reads.

Tkachenko thanked Ukraine’s Mission to UNESCO and his foreign counterparts, the ministers of the countries who supported Ukraine’s position.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on March 18, Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko and EU culture ministers appealed to UNESCO to cancel the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee, set to be held in Kazan, and move the venue to Lviv.
