Millions of Ukrainians are encountering russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of russian fakes.
Today, the russian information space is focused on the russian offensive in Donbas. There are vague stories about huge russian successes, but no concrete details, which tells us that the offensive is stalling. News reports from Mariupol are downplaying the decision not to storm Azostal plant, proclaiming “total victory” in the city. The russian MoD announced their plans for the “second stage” of the invasion into Ukraine, which include the capture of Odessa and Mykolaiv, and vague threats to Moldova, where “russian people are getting oppressed”. kremlin diplomats complain that Ukraine does not want to negotiate, which, in their language, means that Ukraine is refusing to capitulate. The hunt for the “enemies of the people” (anyone who opposes the state policies) continues.
Main fake narratives:
- Ukrainian soldiers are surrendering all together
- Ukraine is being controlled by the west
- russians don’t commit war crimes, Ukrainians do
- Ukrainian refugees are causing crime and spreading disease
- Sanctions against russia are destroying Europe
- The world is dominated by russophobia
FAKE: UK’s efforts to train Ukrainian soldiers to use western weapons is pointless
Source:
Disproof:
The quality of russian propaganda was never high. In their attempts to diminish and discredit Ukrainians, russian propagandists have not evolved pass kindergarten insults. According to them, Ukrainians are too stupid to use western weapons like NLAW, Javelin, Stinger and Starstreak, so it is pointless to give the weapons in the first place.
Amusingly enough, these statements are made moot by the amount of russian tanks, planes, helicopters, and other combat vehicles that were destroyed by Ukrainians soldiers wielding these western weapons without any training in how to use them. We all need to remember, that when russia is mocking something, they are actually afraid of it.
FAKE: Postal trucks destroyed by russian artillery in Kharkiv had carried weapons
Source:
Disproof:
This fake is an attempt by russia to somehow justify their indiscriminate shelling of Kharkiv. Earlier today, russians had hit a logistics depo of “Nova Poshta” – a major Ukrainian courier company. One man was killed, six were wounded, the explosion destroyed two trucks and damaged the depo. As a response, russian propaganda claimed that this random bombardment of the city was actually a successful “special operation”, and the trucks were carrying weapons for the Ukrainian army.
This is one of the lamest excuses we had ever seen from russian propaganda. “Nova Poshta” is a private company that delivers mail and parcels to civilians. The claim that Ukrainian army used a courier company to deliver weapons into a combat zone is just stupid. How is that even supposed to work? A soldier, sitting in his foxhole, waiting for a delivery guy to bring him the Javelin he ordered? Seeing that russians lie all the time, one would assume they’d be good at it.
Be advised: Russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
