Information Warfare: russian fakes for May 27th, 2022

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, mass media, social networks, and word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of russian fakes.

Today, the russian information space is mostly focused on russian offensive in Donbas. Propagandists continue their doom saying campaign, trying to destroy the morale of Ukrainian civilians. Recent cruise missile strikes against Ukrainian cities are a part of this strategy.

russia continues to blackmail the world. As the global food shortage grows worse, russian officials are bluntly saying that they could fix it by lifting the blockade of Ukrainian ports, in exchange for the EU and NATO lifting the sanctions. russia is no longer hiding the fact that it is blackmailing the west with starvation.

As the fears of the new monkeypox spread throughout the world, russia is claiming that this disease was a product of the US-funded Nigerian biolabs. Apparently, everything wrong with the world is the fault of the US or Ukraine.

Main fake narratives:

  • NATO and the EU are orchestrating a global food crisis
  • The US was developing bioweapons in Ukraine and Nigeria
  • Poland is planning to capture western Ukraine
  • Ukrainian soldiers are surrendering en masse
  • The west is controlling Ukraine
  • russians don’t commit war crimes, Ukrainians do
  • Sanctions against russia are destroying Europe
  • The world is dominated by russophobia

FAKE: Cargo shipowners don’t want to move their ships out of Ukrainian ports

Source:

Disproof:

At first, russia accused Ukraine of holding foreign ships hostage, thus provoking a global food shortage. Now russia is accusing the owners of the ships of holding their ships’ hostage? How does that even work?

Maybe, just maybe, people understand that sailing in waters controlled by russian navy will not end well, no matter what the russian officials say.

FAKE: The West has declared a total war against “the russian world”

Source:

Disproof:

On February 24, 2022, russia attacked Ukraine, an independent sovereign country, unprovoked. It brought war, destruction, and untold suffering to a peaceful land. This is the ideology of the “russian world”, a world without rules and morality, where the strong do what they wish, and the weak suffer. The West did not declare war on russia, russia had declared war against the very foundations of our civilization: freedom, liberty, and the rule of law. And if we don’t want our world to devolve into a lawless wasteland, ravaged by conflict and strife, russia must be defeated.

FAKE: Ukraine had destroyed AN-225 Mriya

Source:

Disproof:

russia, once again, blames Ukraine for the destruction russia had caused. On February 24, russian paratroopers landed at Hostomel and destroyed most of the planes stationed there during the fighting for the airport. If not for russia, AN-225, the biggest cargo plane in the world, would be safe and flying right now.

Be advised: russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
