Information Warfare: russian fakes for May 28th, 2022 (at 18:00)

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, mass media, social networks, and word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of russian fakes.

Today, the russian information space is not as active but is mostly focused on russian offensive in Donbas.

putin officially removed age restrictions for military contracts in russia. This means that people younger than 18 and older than 40 can now join the military. russia is running out of men willing to fight in Ukraine.

Propaganda is reacting to the US announcing deliveries of long-range MLRS systems to Ukraine. russian propagandists are outraged that russian cities could now be in range of such systems, considering it an escalation of conflict, although russia is perfectly comfortable bombing Ukrainian cities and killing thousands of civilians. It’s ok for russia to bomb Ukrainian cities, but not the other way around.

According to the kremlin, russian grain harvest in 2022 will be the highest in the country’s history. But, in reality, this harvest forecast is used to cover up the fact that russia is stealing millions of tonnes of grain from the occupied Ukrainian territories. The Ukrainian grain will be labeled as russian and sold abroad.

Russians are enraged by learning that russian literature in Ukraine is taught under the foreign literature program. According to them, a country that considers russian literature as “foreign” is clearly a Nazi state.

Main fake narratives:

  • NATO and the EU are orchestrating a global food crisis
  • The US was developing bioweapons in Ukraine and Nigeria
  • Poland is planning to capture western Ukraine
  • Ukrainian soldiers are surrendering en masse
  • The west is controlling Ukraine
  • russians don’t commit war crimes, Ukrainians do
  • Sanctions against russia are destroying Europe
  • The world is dominated by russophobia

FAKE: The new strain of monkeypox was developed in the US-funded biolabs in Nigeria

Source:

Disproof:

russian propaganda does not miss a chance to blame the US for every problem on the planet. Previously, russia claimed that COVID-19 was created in the US-funded biolabs in Ukraine. We may expect every significant pandemic to be blamed on the US in the future.

The logic of propagandists is such: any biolab is automatically a military biolab, and if the biolab has US sponsorship, support, or just cooperates with any US institutions, it’s a US-funded biolab. It does not matter if the lab in question works on fertilizer, shampoo, or antibiotics, it’s a part of a sinister US-led conspiracy.

There is no point to argue or prove something to people that use publicly available information to craft baseless and outlandish conspiracy theories. Russians are using such fakes as a distraction from their crimes in Ukraine.

Be advised: russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
