General Staff: Threat of Russian offensive from territory of Belarus growing

The threat of renewed Russian offensive operations on the northern front is growing.

The direction can be shifted to the western border of Ukraine to cut off the logistical routes through which Ukraine receives weapons and equipment from international partners.

“The aggressive rhetoric of the military-political leadership of Russia and Belarus is intensifying, accompanied by the deployment of the regional grouping of troops of the so-called allied state. The threat of resumption of the offensive of the Russian armed forces on the northern front is growing. This time, the direction of the offensive may be shifted to the west of Ukraine-Belarus border to cut off the main logistical arteries of weapons and military equipment supplies to Ukraine from the partner countries. The aviation units, units of other military branches, Russian armed forces are being deployed at airfields and military infrastructure facilities in the territory of Belarus, including at those ceded to the full control of the armed forces of the Russian Federation,” Oleksiy Hromov, deputy chief of the main operational department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

As noted, covert mobilization measures are being carried out in Belarus, and the Belarusian leadership continues to provide its territory for launching Russian ballistic missiles and drones.

In particular, Russia deployed MiG-31 aircraft at Belarusian airfields which can be armed with Kalibr cruise missiles, Hromov noted and stressed that the General Staff was constantly monitoring this situation.

“Currently, measures are being taken to reliably shield the state border and Kyiv city from the northern direction. If the enemy makes a decision to open the so-called second front, namely to conduct offensive operations from the Republic of Belarus, we will be ready to provide an adequate response,” the representative of the General Staff assured.

As reported, the latest satellite images show the build-up of Russian equipment and troops at the Zyabrovka military airfield near the Belarusian border with Ukraine.
