The U.S. stands in solidarity with Ukraine’s position that the Kremlin does not want any peace talks that would be consistent with the principles of the UN Charter and international law – on the contrary, Russia is doing the opposite and continues to kill Ukrainian civilians.

This was stated on Monday during a briefing in Washington, D.C., by U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to Ukrinform.

“We believe, as do Ukrainians, in the establishment of peace. A peace that respects the principles of the UN Charter on territorial integrity and sovereignty, that ensures Ukraine’s ability to protect its future, that ensures Ukraine’s recovery and rebuilding, and that holds Russia accountable for its attack on Ukraine and its war crimes,” Price said.

He recalled that the President of Ukraine personally spoke about the readiness for negotiations on such principles. According to Price, if Russia wants such a dialogue, it must stop shelling and launching missiles, stop its attacks and killing of Ukrainian civilians and destruction of infrastructure.

“But of course, the Kremlin is doing the opposite – it continues to escalate this war instead of sending a signal that it is ready and open to negotiations,” the State Department spokesman stressed.

Price also stressed that the United States, NATO and the European Union continue to adhere to the principle “Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine”.
