Due to the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP, there is a risk of flooding of energy facilities in Kherson region, including the Kherson CHPP. Almost 12 thousand consumers in the city (Ostriv district) have already been cut off from electricity, and there may be problems with water supply.
That’s according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy, Ukrinform reports.
“The explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant did not directly affect the situation in the country’s power system. There are no threats to the stability of electricity supply. Due to the dam blowing up, there is a risk of flooding of power facilities in Kherson region, in particular Kherson CHP. Almost 12,000 consumers have already lost power in the city (Ostriv district) due to flooding, and there may be problems with water supply. Preventive anti-crisis measures are being prepared,” the statement said.
The ministry emphasized that despite the gradual decrease in water levels, there is no direct threat to the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. Energoatom experts are constantly monitoring the situation.
As reported, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP. As a result of the explosion of the engine room from the inside, the station was completely destroyed. As of 9:00 a.m. on June 6, the water level in the reservoir is decreasing, and evacuations have begun from potential flood areas.
The uncontrolled decrease in the reservoir level is an additional threat to the temporarily occupied ZNPP. Water from the Kakhovka Reservoir is necessary for the plant to receive water for turbine condensers and ZNPP safety systems.
