President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Ukrainians on the ninth anniversary of the downing of flight MH17 in Donetsk region.
The Ukrainian head of state posted on Twitter that on July 17, Ukraine honors the memory of the victims of flight MH17, Ukrinform reports.
“Our thoughts and hearts are with the families and loved ones of each and every one of the 298 victims. This tragedy caused by the aggressor will never be forgotten. The invading state, the terrorist state will be held fully accountable for all crimes committed in Ukraine,” Zelensky stressed.
As reported, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down over occupied area of Donetsk region on July 17, 2014. There were 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board. All of them died.
Igor Girkin (Strelkov), ex-officer in Russia’s FSB intelligence service and former so-called defense minister of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic”; Sergey Dubinskiy, general of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and head of the so-called “Main Intelligence Directorate of the Donetsk People’s Republic”; Leonid Kharchenko, a citizen of Ukraine, who were found guilty in the case of the downing of flight MH17, must pay EUR 16 million in compensation.
The relevant ruling was made by a court in the Netherlands.
Girkin, Dubinskiy and Kharchenko were sentenced to life imprisonment. Lieutenant Colonel of the GRU, Oleg Pulatov, has been acquitted.
The international Joint Investigation Team reported that the plane had been shot down from a Buk missile system that belonged to the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces stationed in Kursk.
