Nayev: Four attempts by enemy saboteur groups to cross northern border thwarted in July

In July, the Defense Forces of Ukraine thwarted four attempts by Russian saboteurs to cross the border in Sumy and Chernihiv regions.

“In July 2023, four attempts by the enemy saboteur and reconnaissance groups to penetrate into the territory of Ukraine were detected and thwarted in the area of responsibility of the North Operational and Strategic Group of Troops,” Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, posted on Telegram.

According to Nayev, the events took place on the section of the Russia–Ukraine border within Chernihiv and Sumy regions.

“These cases were recorded in the dark, but this did not prevent the border guards at the observation posts from spotting the saboteurs in time and opening fire on them. Territorial Defense Forces, Special Operations Forces, mortar units, anti-saboteur reserves, and special forces of the Centre of Special Operations ‘A’ also took an active part in countermeasures against the enemy’s saboteur and reconnaissance groups,” Nayev emphasized.

He noted that works to improve the video surveillance system, mine possible ways of crossing the border with guided anti-personnel mines, arrange mined impassable forest debris were currently underway in the northern direction.
