Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in Seoul, sharing Ukrainian intelligence on military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. The two sides also discussed joint responses to emerging security threats.
That is according to Yonhap, Ukrinform reports.
During the meeting, Yoon emphasized South Korea’s commitment to discussing “practical response measures” with Ukraine to counter the security threats posed by the growing military ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.
Ukraine and South Korea agreed to continue sharing information on North Korea’s troop deployment to Russia and on weapons and technology transfers between Russia and North Korea.
Additionally, the Ukraine delegation held separate talks with National Security Adviser Shin Won-sik and Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun following their meeting with Yoon to share intelligence on North Korean troops deployed to Russia and expressed hopes for deepening future cooperation with South Korea.
It was anticipated that the Ukrainian minister would request arms support from South Korea, however, it remains unclear whether this topic was formally addressed.
President Yoon previously stated that South Korea’s decision on supplying arms to Ukraine would depend on the extent of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Ukrainian delegation, led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, arrived in South Korea on November 27.
